A Special Member & Longtime President
April 24, 1937 - July 30, 2025
We pay special honor and remembrances of Jon. He will be forever in our hearts for what was achieved on our behalf.Jon was community minded and believed in giving back using his talents where they mattered. Our gun club was a lucky recipient of this nature along with The Shriners Burn Center in Boston, Cub Scouts, Fishing Clubs more. His highlight was being the President of WRPC leading most of our events and fundraising efforts. The sport and club provided him with many friends who enjoyed seeing him all the time. As quoted by our current President, Kevin Rice, "Jon was more than a leader - he was a steady hand, a loyal friend, and a passionate advocate for our club and its members. His commitment to our club, his kindness, and his quiet strength made a lasting mark on all who knew him." He was "all in" when his curiosity peaked.
Located in South Woodstock on Church Hill, approximately 1 mile north of the South Woodstock Country Store, the club is sited on a scenic Vermont hillside. We have been in existence since December 1948 and offer Rifle ranges of 50, 100, 200 and 300 yards and Pistol ranges of 25 and 50 yards. Our Trap Range is open Tuesday evenings at 5:30 pm.
Members are encouraged to bring along a guest for the shooting events or just for informal shooting. All safe shooters may apply for membership. Children under 18 must be supervised by a parent when shooting.
To help out first-timers to trap shooting at the Woodstock Gun Club, we thought we’d post some useful Dos and Don’ts to get them started.
To learn the basics of trap, please see Trap Shooting by Robert Sturgeon it gives a great overview of the fundamentals. Our view on this page is to provide an even more basic guide.
The executive committee has adopted a “clean range” policy. We ask that you carry out what you carry in. This includes food and beverage containers, spent brass and cartridge boxes, shot up targets and backers. If it is good enough for the National Parks, we figure that it is good enough for our club. So please include a trash bag with your shooting supplies.
This means we are asking you to make a reasonable attempt to police your brass. Please dont depend on others to clean up after you. The clean range policy applies to everyone.
Remember: take only shots, leave only footprints!
